addendum

to my younger, impressionable friend and reader (out of the 3 ppl who read this)
if i can say one last thing to you
it would be that my opinion is irrelevant!

don't listen to me, or your parents, or your church.
think for yourself!

ask yourself what kind of person you want to be, and let that guide you :)

we are cleaning the hallway closet and guess what we find....
oh there you are, my "missing" no on prop 8 signs!
hmmm who hid you here

anywho benny turned me on to this brilliant counter-movement against the god hates fags campaign

they stand around the god hates fags protesters with pickets that read "god hates figs" or "god hates signs"
hilariously subverting their opponent's message without becoming violent

what other creative peaceful movements are out there?

chop chop chop

my hair is down to my waist now.  the only reason i am keeping it this long is to make tsahaylu for my Avatar halloween costume but i'm a ratty cavewoman and i'm enduring this unkempt nest solely for one glorious night of geekhood so that i can win your respect

the other kristeen says why don't i just start brushing my hair but do you know how many brushes my hair has eaten?  hairbrushes come to my head to die

i'm tired of lugging it around.  goodbye sweet avatar costume.
"you lost the respect you never had"

keep breathing

this song is about the breakdown following a breakup. in a way i'm kind of breaking up in that i'm mentally preparing myself to walk into a shitstorm

this next year is going to be a bitch.

but it's only a year
and shoot, i can live this life for one year.
i have decided that i'm not just going to get by
i will prove to myself that i deserve to be here
and i can do anything good, better than anyone

i set these expectations of myself but ultimately only one thing matters
i hope i'm a good nurse

my social life will end come august
but until then...i will do at least one fun thing every single day

tons of classmates went to our physio professor's church to hear him sing in a choir concert
i go up to him afterward to say goodbye and thank him for the semester.
when he sees me he asks miss b, where's m?  wherever you go, m's never far behind
m is standing behind me.  prof smiles and says i knew it

and tomorrow is ella's birthday
a couple months ago she gifted me a ticket to the hollywood bowl to see a band called the eagles.  i did not know who they were but apparently they're quite popular, especially with the older folks.  they sing hotel california, and desperado (i thought that was kenny rogers!!)
anyway the point of this story is that i know these tickets were sold out and muy expensivo, but ella wanted to take me, of all people.  that's ella.  irrational.  but so giving and funny and sweet and amazing, and just a lovely person all around.  i'm very lucky to call her my friend

twofold good news

firstly, yesterevening hiromi and i hung out in downtown fullerton to catch the nerdy thursday variety show. someone called out a familiar sounding name and i almost peed my pants when i looked over because it was none other than thee kevynn malone of fat free milk! i know!!!

who is this kevynn malone, you ask?  he's pretty much the reason why i started this blog, no joke.  i've been stalking following fat free milk since 2001,  so in my mind i've been his invisible internet friend for nine years holy moly.  and i finally met him. by chance.  he is just as nice in person :)
i'm glad we can be real life friends, not just words on computer screens

now i just need to meet mike from new york

secondly. this came in the mail today.  i never told my parents that i went in for an interview a couple weeks back.  i came out holding up this shirt and they hugged me and cried :')
if you are reading this, you have supported me throughout this process.  thank you for everything

this is the view of our string bean garden from my bedroom window

i think we have over 15 kinds of fruit trees around our house- the ones i can remember are white guava, starfruit, papaya (but they taste like poop), avocado, pomelo, nectarines, and calamansi (look like tiny oranges & taste like a mix between an orange/lemon, often used in filipino dishes)

this season my dad planted string beans, camote (don't know the english word), tomatoes, eggplant, bittermelon, and squash
when the veggies are ready for harvesting i want to throw a beanfeast and wear overalls.  no one in la wears overalls anymore :(

M is kinda shy and quiet so for his birthday i got a big bunch of balloons, went to class early, and tied them to his desk.  want to hear a cute story?  i told him i used to be mute, and he said 'me too'    :)

this made me cry (but i'm also on my period and i'm a hot mess) from aldy and nanet's blog
Today happens to be our 17 month wedding anniversary and our 24th week into the pregnancy. Happy Anniversary JBdela! I know you've been feeling pretty achy lately, but we're more than halfway there and I'll do my best to make you feel as comfortable as possible.

hi five!
ps if you need to take microbio and you live near la i highly recommend taking it with dr. w a d e (i spaced out the letters so that she doesn't google her name and land on this page) at lahc in wilmington. out of all the professors i've had in my academic career, i would say she's one of my top two. she expects a lot so her class isn't a cakewalk, and you'll have to do a gripload of work. you will probably say to yourself crap this requires so much effort, but when you see how hard dr.w works for this class, you will shut your mouth then work that much harder.  i think it is a privilege to study under a professor of her caliber, so if you have an opportunity to take a class with her, you should do it

can i just say i worked my booty off this semester and i totally kicked arse!
ask me how many drops of reagent you need to add in a catalase test and i know it like the back of my hand.  i will probably never need to use this information ever again but i have sixteen weeks of battle scars (chair marks) imprinted on my big ol' butt from studying.  i worked hard and i know this shit.

i am muy muy proud of myself.  go me! i'm a genius! haha
one week left then imma blow this taco stand

for some reason this picture and its description always makes me tear up.
Italian soccer referee Pierluigi Collina. photog credit: Mike Moore.
Collina, who officiated at the 2002 World Cup final between Germany and Brazil, had already four times been voted 'Referee of the Year' by the FIFA international football association. He announced that he would be stepping down in 2005. He will be 45, the mandatory retirement age for referees.
He expressed his reluctance to go, but noted that people in his profession had to be bound by the rules.
