i think
when someone is trying to look good
of course they want to put their best forward
resume, hair did, nice clothes, nice car, pick-up lines, crest white smile
impress, impress, impress

and when someone crumples up in front of you
and flaunts their flaws out in the open
when they start bawling and the snot drips down their face
they’re beautiful without trying

life is ironic, no?

p.s. painting is fun
p.p.s. Joseph Feliciano where are you now

oh dear

i borrowed a book at the library called 365 More Surprising Scientific Facts, Breakthroughs, and Discoveries and i came upon this:

"In the condition 'uncombable hair syndrome,' the hair suddenly tangles like felt. Damaged surface scales on the hairs stick out and lock the strands together. Most 'feltings' follow vigorous shampoos."

gasp!
i vow to change my old ways

the last time i saw the best friend, i got lost on the freeway, twice, and he waited on the curb at the airport and gave me directions over the phone
then after we got breakfast we went up the escalator and found seats in front of a big window that took up the whole wall
and we just sat there and watched airplanes for an hour

hands down i think that was my favorite way to waste an hour

aw man
i have NO game!
to any future guys out there who think i'm not interested,
it's not that i don't like you!
its just that i get really really nervous and i don't know what to say!
if our conversations are awkward, take that as a good sign!
awkward silences are my way of hollering back at you

over the weeked i camped at a buddhist monastery to listen to Thich Nhat Hahn

interesting things:

first thing i noticed - all the monks and nuns looked so young! glowing faces with hardly any wrinkles. i could not believe that one of the sisters was 71 yrs old, she looked like she was maybe 40

whenever a bell rang, everyone completely froze, just like Evie in Out Of This World when she touched her index fingers together. this is to remind you to live in the present moment

breakfast, lunch, and part of dinner were eaten in complete silence, and chewing is done slowly and mindfully so that you appreciate every bite of food and all the love and care that went into growing and preparing the meal in front of you

when monks and nuns shave their heads, its an act of revolution. they give up their hair, a symbol of outer beauty, and instead decorate themselves with peace and mindfullness.

and i had a heart-to-heart with a monk and he made me bawl my eyes out during dinner, but in a good way.

good lectures, good conversations, good people, good food, good times

p.s. happy belated birthdays to Gabe and Unji and Phuong and Tim!!
p.p.s. Susanna Khalil where are you now

can somebody please tell my parents that I am fully capable of operating motor vehicles after the sun has set? my driving abilities will not significantly deteriorate after 8pm! i promise!

poop.

on a completely un-related note,
i may scoff at Build-A-Bear and Color-Me-Mine and anything related to Nicholas Sparks (hissss!)

but in all reality
i WANT to be swept off my feet!

this is not a plea for flowers (they die)
or stuffed animals (useless!)
or gifts of monetary value (not impressed)
or whispers of sweet nothings (blahblah empty words)

what i want is someone who is
just as genuinely happy to see me/be with me as I with them...
it doesn't even have to be a 'why do birds suddenly appear every time she is near' type feeling

it's not even the kind of thing you have to say out loud...
you just know,
like when you're talking to someone on the phone and you can tell they're smiling cause its in their voice...i forget what movie that's from

genuine. substance.
and of course he must think i'm the most amazing thing to ever walk this planet but that is a given. haha

anyhooo this is not directed at anyone.
i'm jus sayin, ya know?

can this post have any more estrogen??

p.s. Does anyone else watch That's So Raven on the Disney Channel?
HILARITY! The caliber of acting is absolutely superb! bravo!

it's a beautiful thing when centers have to temporarily turn helpers away because there are already too many donations and too many volunteers

an even BIGGER flood is going to hit the South in the upcoming months.
Floods always come in twos...
first comes the water,
then comes the outpouring of love, support, and generosity

if you thought Hurricane Katrina was powerful, you haven't seen anything

keep the donations coming
the storm isn't over yet

Too much of a good thing can be wonderful. -Mae West
