Monday, July 30, 2012 ( 10:58 AM ) shut up christine this is what we took home from the hollywood farmers market this week (every sunday 8am-1pm) in the last 10 minutes of the market, some of the vendors slash their prices so we're able to get some fresh organic local veggies at great deals i hope and believe we are forming a solid family tradition i hope these are the kinds of things we populate our fridge with regularly and years down the line i hope our children always have foods like this available to them in our home # Saturday, July 28, 2012 ( 5:05 PM ) shut up christine old unpublished draft when i think about the times i have been in love it wasn't until makoto that i understood how it felt to be loved by me he was like a mirror, reflecting it back as much as i love being loved and in love i have come to appreciate the end of it the times i have weathered endings in the past, i remember the swollennesss and brokenness of it the unleashing of madness the long gradual struggle back to normalcy crazy as it sounds, i miss this kind of pain at times. as much as love lifts me the end sends me to a deep place and i always find something good there like the release after a good ugly cry or a small happiness in between long bouts of sadness the good parts are so beautiful and rewarding # Friday, July 27, 2012 ( 6:13 PM ) shut up christine today's juice was just coconut water straight from a young fresh coconut that gadget at the bottom left is a coconut punch - it's super easy to use and it cost a dollar at the supermarket. i used to spend 10 minutes hacking away at my coconuts with a knife also, i made guac. and this morning i ate at the griddle cafe with sabs. yup reboot is pretty much over # Thursday, July 26, 2012 ( 3:05 PM ) shut up christine
In a typical year, only about half of the Greenland ice sheet undergoes
this kind of melting before it later refreezes. But the rapidity and
extent of the July change is what has caught scientists off guard, said
Thomas Mote, a professor at the University of Georgia, who helped
confirm the data from three satellites. via npr
why am i still surprised that some people don't believe in global warming?
whether you think humans are to blame, or its a government scare tactic, or a natural cyclical occurrence every few million years...
there are real consequences that we (read: YOU) will have to deal with in this lifetime
whether you want to acknowledge it or not, your life will be affected (as small as a rise in the cost of your Starbucks coffee or as big as severe coastal flooding in New York City)
but then again, lots of people don't believe in evolution either
gawd. sometimes i just sit at my desk and shake my head

( 10:04 AM ) shut up christine love. # Wednesday, July 25, 2012 ( 5:50 PM ) shut up christine compromise i know that after 10 serious days of a juice reboot i should feel AWESOME. increased energy & metabolism, crisp mental clarity, weight loss, glowing skin, sparkles and unicorns the problem is right now, i'm hungry and moody and i can't concentrate for shiz this poses a problem when i need to be studying hella hours each day. i just can't. i want falafel. falafel now, biatch!! so. i'm still going to continue juicing for the remaining 5 days and beyond. i just can't do a full on detox right now and study the way i want/need to. weakness? excuses? perhaps i'm gonna keep juicing each day but eat a good meal as well. happy healthy medium! today is heavy on carrots and kale Carrot juice is known for beta carotene which gives the body Vitamin A, B Vitamins, Vitamin E and many minerals. The health benefits of drinking carrot juice are thought to be good prenatal health, eyesight, bones and teeth, liver and nails, skin and hair as well as helping in cancer prevention. via *** One of the main benefits of using kale in your juice blends is that it provides a large nutritional punch with one of the fewest calorie counts per cup of any other vegetable.
Kale is also a rich
source of the carotenoid and phytonutrient lutein (natural antioxidant), vitamin K (blood clotting), vitamin A (vision health, healthy skin), vitamin C (immune system, healthy body tissues), calcium (strong bones, muscle contraction, nerve conduction), including manganese, copper, potassium, iron, magnesium, vitamin E, omega 3 fatty acids, vitamins B1, B2 and B3, protein, foliate
and phosphorus!

Russian longevity researcher, Mikhail Tombak, Ph.D., tells us that beet juice improves blood structure and cures diseases of the circulatory system, large intestine, and digestive system. Tombak also shares that beet juice dissolves stones in the liver, kidneys and bladder. In the 1950s, Dr. Ferenczi of Hungary had his cancer patients drink a quart of beet juice each day, which was effectively breaking down and eliminating tumors. # Monday, July 23, 2012 ( 8:19 PM ) shut up christine i ate. last night i had a really hard time (11pm is my worst!) but i made it. today around 3pm i couldn't concentrate on studying so i went into the kitchen and, very deliberately cut up an onion. in a few moments i had cooked up a pan of veggie adobo, which i ate with brown rice and spinach (so good). i also had animal crackers and handful of honey bbq fritos twists. bah i knew day 3 was going to be hard mentally and i didn't push through it but it's okay! gonna keep trucking. dinner day 3 (usually more than i can drink so i have the leftovers in the morning)

The real cost of the food is paid somewhere..." loved this movie! oddly, watching documentaries about food/the food industry has helped me deal with my juice fast also, i want to grow things. maybe makoto and i can do some farming abroad on our honeymoon... hmmm organic farm in japan FRESH celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. Each has witnessed the rapid transformation of our agriculture into an industrial model, and confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources, and morbid obesity. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of our food and our planet. you can stream FRESH on netflix # Sunday, July 22, 2012 ( 2:32 PM ) shut up christine dia dos: celery cilantro kale clementine gala apple blueberries (only used a few, makoto will eat the rest) spinach snap peas (i think. came in a big $1 unlabeled bag at farmers market) # Saturday, July 21, 2012 ( 1:07 PM ) shut up christine today: purple kale cucumber apples celery spinach clementine # ( 12:21 PM ) shut up christine no biggie starting today, at this moment i'm implementing massive changes in several aspects of my life after watching this movie last week (you can watch for free using that link), i decided to do a 10 day reboot, ie juice fast (movie is kinda corny but watch it through til the end...pretty amazing stuff regarding the healing benefits) anywho i actually started the reboot yesterday but i got uber hungry around 9pm last night and i had some leftovers that i didn't want to spoil during my fast so i ate em. but today! today it's on i know its going to be crappy for the first three days or so but i have a secret weapon that i call the aldrich method aldrich is my sister's husband he has beast-like self discipline getting a PhD in mathematics? no biggie fastest race time for his age division at the santa monica 10k? no biggie is a rocket scientist? no biggie no complaining, no whining, he just does the work to get it done. when i'm hungry and having withdrawals on day 3 of reboot? quit the whining and do it (ps its noon on day 1 and i would love a sandwich ah mah gahh) i'm going to apply this beast mentality to other things, like attacking my nclex studying now that i have my test date alritey day 1 of juice fast and intensive studying here we go no biggie # Thursday, July 19, 2012 ( 12:32 AM ) shut up christine summer has been spent...

Retired Brig. Gen. Steven Anderson calls himself “an accidental environmentalist.”
His epiphany about climate change started with a tactical
problem. In 2006 and 2007, when he served as the military’s chief
logistician in Iraq, he coordinated the transport of millions of gallons
of fuel across the country to power everything from vehicles to the
large compressors used to cool individual tents—or, as Anderson puts it,
for “air conditioning the desert.” He was taking one
casualty for every 24 fuel convoys, and he was doing 18 convoys a day.
That’s one casualty every other day. He needed to get the trucks off the
road. He needed to find a way to reduce the military’s fuel use.
“I’m a soldier,” Anderson said. “Why should I be concerned about climate change? Climate change brings about global instability. That makes the world more vulnerable and it’s more likely that soldiers like myself will have to fight and die somewhere.” # |
