( 3:47 AM ) shut up christine
muscle memory
one of my favorite moments of nursing school happened in the hospital during clinicals
i bent down to tie my shoelaces
and one of my classmates noticed that i use the bunny-ear method
that's how i learned it as a kid and that's how i've always done it
so she tried to teach me the other way
and fuck me i couldn't get it!!
the knowledge of shoelace-tying must be deeply ingrained into my fingers
it's kinda scary/ fascinating that i (and my fingers) have so much difficulty learning how to do something differently, especially when that something should be so simple.
anyhoo we tried for ten minutes and the rest of my clinicals group came over and formed a semi-circle around me
giving me tips and rooting me on, saying stuff like you almost got it! and you're so close...so close
that was pretty sweet and i'm going to remember that forever, even though i still can't tie my shoes that way
when i see their facebook status updates, they're usually about mental breakdowns and sleep deprivation.
they don't read this but i am totally cheering them on. i miss them
