"Proposition 8 served no purpose, and had no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California,” the court said
i liked Miles Christian Daniel's comment on this article:
"Three years after The Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed, the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of Richard & Mildred Loving (an interracial couple), and in a unanimous decision declared Virginia's anti-miscegenation statute unconstitutional. Sixteen states, mostly in the southern portion of the United States, still had anti-miscegenation laws and were forced to revise them by then "activist judges" on the Supreme Court. Just nine years prior to this (1958), a Gallup poll showed that 96 percent of white Americans disapproved of interracial marriage. What's the takeaway? We're getting there - but ultimately marriage rights for same-sex couples MUST (and eventually will) happen on the federal level."
