One carries a chip on one's shoulder as a form of physical challenge, inviting opponents to knock the chip off and so provoke a fight. The concept is now metaphorical, describing people who nurse a grudge or grievance that readily provokes fury or disputation. via
yesterday a gummy bear sized "chip" was removed from my right shoulder
the excision wasn't painful (anesthesia of course)
it's the healing part that hurts
this has been the case for so many situations in my life
many times, the everything-after is harder than the trauma itself
no matter how long it takes, eventually there comes a moment when it doesn't hurt anymore
