Wednesday, April 24, 2013 ( 12:27 PM ) shut up christine healthcare PSA: women and stroke earlier i did a post about recognizing the classic signs & symptoms of stroke -- facial drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty but i failed to mention that women may present with different signs and symptoms altogether.for women, the most commonly experienced symptom of stroke is altered mental status. other key symptoms are headache and dizziness altered mental status, headache, lightheadedness, dizziness -- that could be from anything right? stress, not enough sleep, forgetting to eat lunch...this is why so many women fail to associate these symptoms with stroke & therefore don't seek medical attention when these symptoms appear the important thing to take away is that the onset of stroke symptoms is sudden and you need to act fast. call 911 immediately so they can take you to the nearest hospital that is a primary stroke center what you can do to reduce your risk (both men and women):
* american stroke association presented evidence that drinking diet soda may increase the risk of myocardial infarction (heart attack), stroke, or the risk of dying of either, by 50% or more!
