organdonor.gov
i heard this cray story the other day -- some folks think that if you're listed as an organ donor and you go to a hospital, the doctors won't help you and they will purposely let you die so that your organs can be harvested.
if this is your belief, i'm not going to shake my head and call you an ignoramus.
no judgment here. this is why we have these PSAs, so that you can make informed decisions
what you decide to do is your business
pero when you die you won't need those body parts anymore and this one final act of love and generosity can give eight more people the gift of life. just sayin'
FACTS:
- If you are sick or injured and admitted to a hospital, the number one priority is to save your life.
- An open casket funeral is usually possible for organ, eye, and tissue donors. Through the entire donation process, the body is treated with care, respect, and dignity.
- There is no cost to donors or their families for organ or tissue donation.
- Federal law prohibits buying and selling organs in the US.
- People can recover from comas, but not brain death. Coma and brain death are not the same. Brain death is final. source
if you're still having reservations or doubts about being an organ donor, i highly recommend this movie: the power of two
